How to maintain your pickleball court

You just had your brand new pickleball court installed in your backyard– congratulations! We are sure you can’t wait to get out and play on it, but you may also be worried about how to keep this beautiful court looking as good as it does right now. Here are five ways that you can maintain your court to keep it looking pristine for as long as possible:

  1. Keep your court clear of dirt and debris. Your court will accumulate a lot of dirt, leaves, sticks, etc. These things can wear out the acrylic coating on your court, cause cracks, and even leave stains, so regular cleaning is essential. Grab a broom or a leaf blower and clear off all the debris.
  2. Clear off any standing water. Here in Utah, we see a lot of snow and rain, especially in the winter. When left on your court, water can reduce the longevity of your acrylic, so it’s vital to get it off as quickly as possible. Use a squeegee or a large broom to clear the surface. Make sure to note any puddles on the surface as well.
  3. Watch for cracks. Even if you sweep your court daily, there is still a chance that you will get cracks in your court. Small cracks are typically nothing to worry about, but if they start to grow, you’ll need to get them fixed.
  4. Clean the net. You can use soap and warm water to clean the top of your net and the posts. Watch the ropes and hardware for signs of mold, mildew, and rust that come from rain and snow. Replace parts when needed.
  5. Prep for the winter. Remove your net to avoid any issues if you live in a snowy area. Also, make sure to repair any cracks or holes before the snow starts so they don’t grow. Continue regularly cleaning off water, dirt, leaves, etc., throughout the winter; if you do this, your court will be ready to go when the sun shines in the spring!

Regular court maintenance can make all the difference in the quality of your pickleball court. It can help your court’s surface last up to 8 years before it needs resurfacing, dramatically reducing the cost of upkeep. And when your court finally needs a makeover, we at Ace Courts can help make that happen.
